Balai Khazanah Islam Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah (WAYFINDINGS)
Museum & Exhibition Design | Bandar Seri Begawan, Brunei Darussalam | Completed in 2019
ABOUT PROJECT
Spanning approximately 15,000 square metres, this iconic monument serves as a one-stop Islamic tourism destination and academic hub, dedicated to preserving and showcasing His Majesty’s invaluable personal collection of rare artefacts and manuscripts spanning nearly 1,000 years.
The museum’s architectural design was envisioned by Pei Partnership Architects (New York), in collaboration with EcoBumi Partners as the local associate architects.
HIAS Design’s involvement focused specifically on the design and execution of the museum’s gallery signage and wayfinding systems, contributing to the interior detailing through thoughtfully designed directional signage, showcase captions, and exhibit labels.
Our scope of work included developing specialised captions and labels for Galleries 1, 2, 7, 8, and 9, enhancing visitor navigation and the presentation of historical collections ranging from royal artefacts and rare Mushafs to ancient astronomical instruments and fossils.
